Get to the beach in three hours? Frontier adds daily flights from Trenton to Florida

Soon, you'll be able to get from Trenton to Fort Lauderdale in three hours.

Frontier Airlines said it plans daily, non-stop flights from the Trenton-Mercer Airport to Fort Lauderdale International Airport starting Feb. 17.

The move further expands options for travelers who want to avoid the massive Philadelphia or Newark International airports.

Currently, travelers can go from Trenton-Mercer airport to Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, and the Florida cities of Orlando, Tampa and Fort Myers on Frontier.

The charter jet company Linear Air Taxi also offers flights from Trenton-Mercer to Boston, Canada, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.

Frontier first came to Trenton-Mercer in 2012, offering only flights to Orlando. In 2019, Frontier's competitor at Trenton-Mercer, Allegiant Airlines pulled out.

"These new flights complement our already expansive network in the Caribbean, Mexico and South Florida, and we look forward to welcoming travelers onboard to these popular vacation destinations this winter and beyond," said Daniel Shurz, Frontier's senior vice president of commercial travel.

Meanwhile, Trenton-Mercer Airport has appealed to the FAA with plans to quadruple the size of its current passenger terminal and to construct a parking garage at the airfield off I-295 in Mercer County.

Opponents with the Bucks Residents For Responsible Airport Management and the organization Trenton Threatened Skies have asked the FAA not to allow further construction.

When built in 1975, Trenton-Mercer's terminal was averaging about 55,000 air passengers per year, officials estimate. Trenton-Mercer is currently used by some 350,000 air passengers — six times as many people — annually.
