Beaches, Businesses Close In Orange County In Advance Of July 4

ORANGE COUNTY, CA —On Wednesday, Orange County Healthcare Agency announced 5 more people have died, and the county's positive coronavirus cases is nearing 14,500, with 570 new cases reported.

Two of Orange County's cities have announced closures of beaches over the July 4 weekend. On Wednesday in advance of Independence Day, Gov. Gavin Newsom asked all to do what was necessary to "declare independence over coronavirus" as he announced a closure to all state beach parking areas.

Laguna Beach has announced a hard closure of city beaches over July 4 while Newport Beach went one step further, closing beaches from Friday through Sunday.

Dana Point has canceled their fireworks show on July 4 after the governor's request for all to do what they could to slow the spread during the state's "dimming" orders. Los Alamitos Joint Forces Air Force Base will show will go on, albeit in a new Drive-Thru format.

Currently, 542 coronavirus patients are hospitalized with 192 of those in intensive care.

To date, 7,642 have recovered from coronavirus since the pandemic began.

To date, the ages of those who have died:

  • Between 45 and 54: 30

  • Between 55 and 64: 41

  • Between 65 and 74: 60

  • Between 75 and 84: 94

  • Over 85: 109

In Orange County, 241,027 coronavirus tests have been given, with an additional 7,746 tests reported on Wednesday.

The Orange County Health Care Agency also announced the Effective immediately by order of the State, the following sectors will be closed in Orange County for at minimum three weeks:

  • Indoor Dine-in Restaurants

  • Indoor Wineries and Tasting Rooms

  • Indoor Family Entertainment Centers

  • Indoor Movie Theaters

  • Indoor Zoos and Museums

  • Indoor Cardrooms

  • Indoor and Outdoor Bars

"These sectors may modify operations to provide services outside or by pick-up with the exception of all brewpubs, breweries, bars, and pubs in Orange County which must close immediately, both indoor and outdoor," OCHA reported.
