Bealls announces it plans to open Parkway Plaza store in September

CAMBRIDGE — Back in February, the Daily Jeffersonian reported that Bealls was coming to Parkway Plaza and was set to open this summer. According to Bealls Incorporated’s Divisional Vice President Suzanne Gates, the store is now set to open around Sept. 18.

Bealls is using MDS Building from Medina as the general contractor and has requested it hire local subcontractors to get the store ready for its grand opening.

When open, Bealls is expected to employ between 15 and 20 full-time and part-time employees. The grand opening will feature two weekends of celebrations, including a prize wheel and a gift card treasure hunt.

“Bealls has a desire to continue to expand in the state of Ohio and our market research found a void in the Cambridge community for our retail offering. Bealls stores feature an ever-changing selection of name brands, styles and fashion for the family and home at exceptional value. We have apparel for men, women, teens and children, a pet department, accessories, a large shoe department, beauty products, as well as expansive home décor, bedding, bath and kitchen essentials,” Bealls Director of Communication Karen O’Neil said.

Bealls has more than 650 stores in 23 states with more than 14,000 associates and has been in business for 108 years. Many of the Bealls originally opened as Burkes Outlet, but the Cambridge store will be the first in Ohio to open under the Bealls name from the start.

“We are extremely excited about the addition of Bealls Outlet to our consistently growing shopping options along the Southgate Parkway corridor. The Bealls renovation project completes the repurposing of the former K Mart building, which now includes Rural King and Marshalls,” Norm Blanchard of the Cambridge-Guernsey County Community Improvement Corporation said.

The CIC was created in 1965 to facilitate economic development for Guernsey County, Cambridge, and Byesville. It provides interested businesses with information like available tax incentives, locations and help to connect with local officials.

“Providing the amenities of shopping and restaurants is significant in our efforts to grow the population here, and thereby solidify our tax base. We have been successful in working with developers to provide incentives and a business-friendly atmosphere, which makes the City of Cambridge and Guernsey County desirable as governments ready to facilitate growth,” Blanchard said.

Parkway Plaza also offers shopping at Dollar Tree and CATO, dining options at Little Caesars and Shogun Restaurant, and a place to work out at Anytime Fitness.
