Bear Camp Road is back open

Jul. 29—Bear Camp Road, the backwoods mountain route that offers a scenic drive from the Rogue River outpost of Galice to the lower Rogue River near Gold Beach, is now open to traffic following a fog seal operation, according to a news advisory from the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest.

The project was phase two of a three-phase job. Striping operations are yet to be scheduled, but forest officials said they expect them to start in mid-August and take one day to complete.

Phase one constituted road patching and stabilization work, completed by Larry Bowen. This most recent work was chip seal work completed by the Curry County Road Department. Phase three work will occur on the Josephine County side of the road.
