'The Bear' Gets Speedy Season 2 Renewal From FX

FX has ordered a second season of the critically acclaimed series The Bear.

FX Entertainment President Eric Schrier announced the news on Thursday. The first season premiered on Hulu on June 23 with all of its eight episodes.

'The Bear' became acclaimed with fans and critics alike with its eight-episode first season, which focused on returning home to run his late brother's sandwich shop.

The series stars Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Edwin Lee Gibson and Matty Matheson.

The Bear has exceeded our wildest creative, critical and commercial expectations,” said Schrier. He continued, “We deeply appreciate the brilliant work led by Creator and Co-Showrunner Christopher Storer and Co-Showrunner Joanna Calo. Jeremy Allen White’s lead performance is spectacular, as are those of his co-stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce and Liza Colón-Zayas. We can’t wait to get to work on season 2.”

Co-showrunners and executive producers Christopher Storer and Joanna Calo added, “We are so grateful to FX, our insanely talented cast, our crew who worked hard, fast, and in the dead of winter, not to mention everyone who watched. And we can’t wait to bring you all back to The Bear in 2023.”

Here is the official synopsis of 'The Bear':

The Bear follows Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), a young chef from the fine dining world, who comes home to Chicago to run his family sandwich shop – The Original Beef of Chicagoland – after a heartbreaking death in his family. A world away from what he’s used to, Carmy must balance the soul-crushing realities of small business ownership, his strong-willed and recalcitrant kitchen staff and his strained familial relationships, all while grappling with the impact of his brother’s suicide.

In a sitdown with Shadow And Act, star Ayo Edebiri commented on what the show ultimately was about at its core, saying, "'The Bear' is a show about people trying to make a place the best version and doing that while trying to sometimes be the best version of themselves, sometimes the worst versions of themselves.”

In the same interview, White commented on the idea of found family and finding connections, as well as becoming close with his castmates and the importance of that relationship.

“I just felt really lucky. I was on a show for like 11 years before The Bear and that group really became my family,” he said. “I was so young when I started and we’ve all had kids and it was such a beautiful thing.”

He continued, “I was really afraid that I wasn’t gonna find anything quite like that again, but I feel really lucky with this group and this case because it was so easy. I felt like everybody was on the same page, everybody’s putting the same amount of effort and love into the work.”

The first season of The Bear is available to stream on Hulu.
