Bear seen strolling down sidewalk in Taunton

A bear was seen ambling down a sidewalk in Taunton Thursday.

The black bear was spotted on Danforth Street near the Taunton State Hospital, according to a Facebook post from Paula Morin.

Taunton resident Crocket Elderkin also spotted the bear on Grove Street by the Grove Street Tavern.

Black bears are typically found in Worcester County, northern Middlesex County and in the Berkshires. Males can vary in weight from 130 pounds to 600 pounds and females from 100 to 400 pounds.
