Bear spotted wandering through California neighborhood is tranquilized, cops say

A bear wandering around a neighborhood in Sylmar, California on Monday has been tranquilized, authorities said.

The bear was spotted walking around Los Angeles Mission College and the El Cariso Golf Course on Monday morning, KABC reported. The bear then roamed Eldridge Avenue and Hubbard Street and was placed in a truck after being tranquilized, according to the outlet.

The bear was in a gutter and a driveway as Los Angeles Police Department cars surrounded the scene, CBSLA reported.

The animal was tagged by wildlife authorities and will “likely be returned to the wild,” KNBC reported.

The incident is one of several involving bears roaming in Southern California in the past weeks.

A 29-year-old swatted a bear away when she was napping in her backyard in Sierra Madre last week. The bear attacked her and scratched her arms, California Fish and Wildfire Captain Patrick Foy told USA Today.

“She managed to break free of the bear enough to run back inside,” Foy told the outlet.
