BEARS BARE CLAWS: Bruin matters muscle up at Kan-Okla

Bartlesville High's wrestling team returned from Kansas a lot heavier than when it had arrived.

With the vehicle axle groaning from the weight, Bruins brought home six top-three medals from the Kan-Okla Tournament (Caney, Kan.) -- with Elijah Lunn toting the brightest bauble. a first-place gold orb from the 144-pound division.

Wyatt Lumbley hauled back the silver medal for the 126-pound weight class.

Bruins that confiscated third-place (bronze) honors included: Emanuel Camacho (120), Danny Blankenship (132), Mason Manley (165) and Adyn Peugh (215).

Rounding out the Bruin varsity warriors were Devon Orphin (113, 5th), J.D. Atterberry (190, 5th), A.J. Kerr (138, 8th), Landon Fessler (150) and Roland Foster (175).

Josh Pulsifer is the Bruins' head coach.

Some highlights: Peugh won his consolation third-round match by a fall in 28 seconds … Manley won his final three matches … Kerr won back-to-back falls … Blankenship won two technical falls and a major decision … Camacho won his final three matches by fall.

BARTLESVILLE JAYVEE

The Bruin junior varsity swarmed through the Kan-Okla jayvee competition like locusts gnawing their way through soft corn.

Nearly half of Bartlesville's mighty matsters won championships -- none of the others finished lower than fourth.

The Bruin champs included Juan Carranza (126C), Nate Neal (175C) and Colton Hainzinger (215C).

The list of the team's silver medalists featured Jeremy Wilson (138B) and Keaton Ellyson (175A).

Bruins' powering to third place included Will Patton (144C), Matthew Barndt (165A) and Casey Young (215B).

A.J. Kerr (138C) nailed down fourth place.

Highlights: Carranza, Hainzinger and Nate Neal triumphed in all their matches by falls …Wilson won third place with a pin in 13 seconds … Ellyson posted two victories by falls.

PAWHUSKA

In the varsity competition, Deacon Hendren seized first at 157 pounds, pinning Caney Valley (Kan.) grappler Garrett Watson in the final, 2-0. Logan Cass finished third at 106 with a major decision, 10-1.

CANEY VALLEY (Kan.)

Watson finished the highest for the Bullpups in his championship final loss to Pawhuska's Hendren. Heath Ellis hammered out third place (138).
