Bears linebacker Matt Adams arrested on multiple misdemeanor weapons charges

Chicago Bears linebacker Matt Adams was arrested and charged with multiple weapons offenses, including misdemeanor illegal gun possession and possessing a high-capacity magazine and metal-piercing bullets, Chicago police said.

Adams was taken into custody by authorities just before 7 p.m. Thursday after a search of his vehicle found the high-capacity magazine and a weapon. He was spotted near the vehicle, which was reported stolen and told police that he had a license for the gun, but not in Illinois.

"Earlier this morning, we were made aware of an incident involving the arrest of Bears linebacker Matthew Adams," the Bears said in a statement. "We are in the process of gathering more information. We will refrain from making any further comment at this time."

Adams is due back in court on Aug. 24.

Adams, 26, signed a one-year deal in April. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Indianapolis Colts

Adams appeared in all 17 games last season as a backup with Indianapolis, recording 10 tackles.
