Bears Roster Moves: Linebacker Devante Bond added to practice squad

The Chicago Bears made some roster moves Friday, adding two players to their practice squad as they prepare to face the New York Giants (0-1) in Week 2’s home opener at Soldier Field.

Linebacker Devante Bond and OL Dieter Eiselen were added. Both players have a history with the Bears. Eiselen was part of cuts from the team’s 80-man roster; Bond spent some time with the Bears last December and into the offseason.

Practice squad additions rarely make headlines but they do provide some valuable clues about positions the front office and coaching staff have concerns with. Usually, it’s more about depth than anything else.

Bond, 27, was a sixth-round pick of the Buccanneers in 2016. He dealt with season-ending injuries in two of his first three seasons in Tampa Bay and was suspended by the NFL in 2019 for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

The Bears signed Bond in December 2019, one month after he was reinstated by the NFL. He was released by Chicago in July.

Eiselen, 24, was signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent in May. He was cut on Sept. 5 as part of the team’s final roster cuts. The former Yale product is a longshot developmental prospect.
