Beatles cartoon pop-up art show comes to Cuyahoga Falls this weekend
Generations of Saturday morning cartoon lovers will get to see artwork based on the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine," "The Beatles" Saturday morning cartoon series and more this weekend at Up Front Art Space in Cuyahoga Falls.
A special pop-up art exhibit will feature nostalgic animation paintings by the late Ron Campbell, whose 50-year animation career spanned the golden age of Saturday morning cartoons. The Australia native began working in animation in 1958, on cartoons including "Beetle Bailey," and became director of "The Beatles" cartoon, featuring an animated Fab Four, in 1965.
Campbell moved to the United States, where he worked with on "Yellow Submarine" as well as with Hanna-Barbera and his own studio, Ron Campbell Films. Work followed with the feature-length animated film "Yellow Submarine" as well as "The Smurfs," "The Flintstones," "The Jetsons," "Scooby-Doo," "Rugrats," "Winnie the Pooh," "George of the Jungle," "Yogi Bear" and others.

When Campbell retired from animation, he began painting subjects based on the animated cartoons he helped bring to the screen. His artwork, which emphasized the Beatles, toured galleries across the United States and internationally.

After Campbell's death at age 81 in 2021, he left behind dozens of his cartoon paintings.
The pop-up exhibit at 127 Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls will feature more than 65 works that he painted in his retirement. His cartoon paintings will be for sale. The event run from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.
