Beats’ Solo Pros are among the company’s most technically advanced headphones, packing active noise cancellation, all-day battery life, and Apple-designed technology into a sleek, slim package.
The headphones don’t normally go on sale, but they’re marked down to $199.95 (normally $299.95) — their lowest price ever — on Amazon right now. The $100 discount isn’t tied to a larger sale or promotion, probably won’t last very long.
Beats has established itself as a design and technology-driven audio company, and the Solo Pros continue that tradition by offering two standout features. The first is ANC Active Noise Cancellation, which means the headphones use microphones to filter outside noise (think traffic, airplane noise, birds, etc.), before it hits your ears.
The biggest upside is that you won’t have to crank up the volume of your music to drown out ambient sounds, which can lead to hearing loss. Active noise cancellation is a common feature for over-ear headphones, but very rare to find in on-ear headphones because of they don’t cover your entire ear.
The second is Apple’s H1 chip, which is also featured in AirPods Pro. This chip allows the Solo Pros to stream audio from Apple’s devices with less latency (lag). The H1 also allows you to use Siri by saying “Hey Siri” instead of having to use the microphones built into your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. The Solo Pros will connect to non-Apple devices using Bluetooth 5.0, one of the newest versions of the wireless standard that’s significantly more energy efficient.
Beats says the Solo Pros can last up to 22 hours per charge with active noise cancellation turned on, and 40 hours of it’s turned off. Your actual battery life will depend on your listening volume, and whether you playing music from Apple devices or not. The Solo Pros recharge using USB-C, and you can get three hours of listening time by plugging them into a power adapter for 10 minutes when the battery is low.
The Beats Solo Pros have technology you won’t find in any other pair of on-ear headphones. Their excellent battery life, support for active noise cancellation, and nice design make them a solid choice at their normal price. On sale, you’d be hard pressed to a better pair without spending a lot more.
