Beaufort football rallies in playoff opener, three area SCISA teams in semifinals

A roundup of Friday’s high school football action in the Lowcountry and statewide scores, schedule in the SCHSL and SCISA playoffs:

SCHSL Playoffs

Beaufort 30, Loris 13: The defending Class 3A champs began their title defense with a come-from-behind victory over Loris in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs. Beaufort will travel to Crestwood next week in the second round.

Jayden Andrews rushed for 139 and four touchdowns to lead the Eagles. Quarterback Samari Bonds had 90 yards passing for Beaufort.

Loris led 13-0 in the second quarter on Jackson Huff’s pass to Jacobien Lewis.

But the Eagles took over from there with a pair of Andrews’ touchdown runs to put them up 16-13 going into the fourth quarter.

Andrews added two more TD runs on the Eagles’ first two drives of the fourth quarter.

Richland Northeast 88, Bluffton 54: Richland Northeast (7-4) scored a school-best 88 points in its win over Bluffton in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs. It was the Cavs’ first playoff victory and most wins in a season since 2015.

The 88 points scored breaks the school record set earlier this season (73) against A.C. Flora.

N.C. State commit and RNE quarterback Will Wilson rushed for 401 yards and five touchdowns for the Cavaliers. Running back James Willingham added 330 yards rushing and five TDs for RNE.

Richland Northeast only led 34-27 at halftime before blowing open the game in the second half.

Owen Bayes had a pair of touchdown passes to Brandon Bryant for Bluffton. Jake Ridgeway had two touchdown runs. Eltan Golphin and Aeden McCarthy each had TD runs for the Bobcats, who finished the season at 6-5.

Myrtle Beach 40, May River 14: Gibson Goodroe threw two touchdown passes and Malachi Washington ran for two scores as the Sehahwks defeated the Sharks in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.

Kammron Mitchell and Tanner Macy had TD runs for May River. The Sharks finish the season at 4-7

Andrew Jackson 58, Ridgeland-Hardeeville 16: The Volunteers scored 55 points in the first half on the way to the win over the Jaguars in the 2A playoffs.

Ridgeland-Hardeeville finished the season at 5-6, its most wins since 2014.

Lake View 33, Whale Branch 28: Tyrell Foxworth and Jayden Ford each rushed for two touchdowns in Lake View’s win in the Class A playoffs.

SCISA Playoffs

Hilton Head Christian 42, Pee Dee Academy 7: Dylan Clark threw five touchdown passes as HHCA moved on in the SCISA 3A playoffs.

HHCA will travel to Pinewood Prep in the semifinals next week. Tyshon Mansell had two TD catches for the Eagles.

Beaufort Academy 25, Orangeburg Prep 13: Jaxen Porter rushed for 215 yards and two touchdowns as Beaufort Academy defeated OP in the SCISA Class 2A playoffs.

The Eagles will travel to Williamsburg Academy in the semifinal round next week.

Quarterback Dietrich Shuford threw for 131 yards, rushed for 86 and had two total touchdowns for BA.

Thomas Heyward 54, Calhoun Academy 22: Tony O’Banner carried it 22 times for 348 yards and six touchdowns as the Rebels advanced in the SCISA Class A playoffs.

O’Banner went over 2,000 yards rushing in the season. Thomas Heyward will host Lee Academy in the semifinals next week.

Florence Christian 30, John Paul II 21: Gavin Holt threw for a touchdown and ran for one as the Eagles defeated the Warriors in the SCISA 3A playoffs. Juels Huntley also had a TD run for FCS.

Christian Tilton had two touchdown runs and a TD pass for John Paul II.

Richard Winn 77, Holy Trinity 38: Quarterback Charlie Bonds threw six touchdown passes and ran for one in Richard Winn’s victory in the SCISA 8-man playoffs.

Holy Trinity finishes the season at 4-7.
