Beautification project helps celebrate 100 years of Sturgis Elks

STURGIS — Sturgis Elks Club celebrated 100 years of existence in January 2020. About a year ago, members came up with the idea for a beautification project.

Money was raised and the goal of $10,000 was met. Club members met last week to dedicate new statues that are part of the project.

“Thank you,” said exalted ruler Alan Carter who acted as grand chaplain for the presentation. “A lot of people donated. A lot of people gave to this cause. It speaks for itself.”

Several past Sturgis Elks exalted rulers also were a part of the dedication ceremony. They were Ron Zimmerman (grand exalted ruler), Nate Brown (grand leading knight), Bob Brothers (grand loyal knight), Jean Zimmerman (grand lecturing knight), and Lynn Lego (grand esquire).

There is still more work to be done, officials said. Funds will continue to be raised for beautification purposes.
