Beauty of the Day Kacey Musgraves Sees 'Platinum-Silver Hair' in Her Future

Country music sensation Kacey Musgraves has a clear vision of what kind of “old lady” she’d like to be.

Counting women like Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn as role models, Musgraves hopes her future includes “a rhinestoned cane, platinum-silver hair like Emmylou Harris, endless good stories and a (hopefully) sharp memory,” says the singer in PEOPLE’s Beautiful Issue, where she is named a Beauty of the Year. “And still finding inspiration along the way.”

earned her four Grammy awards, including album of the year, at February’s ceremony, also has sound advice to her 15-year-old self: “Stop. Tweezing. Your. Eyebrows,” she says. “Also — go ahead and forget about that boy who treats you like s—. You deserve better and you will find an amazing man someday.”

Musgraves met her husband Ruston Kelly, also 30, while attending a songwriters’ showcase at the famous Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, and the two got married in 2017. “We laugh, browse antique stores, have lazy days recuperating together with food and something to watch,” she says of their life together now. “Take walks and get coffee. Read to each other.”

When it comes to beauty, Musgraves is “very diligent about sticking with my skincare routine,” insists the singer, who can’t live without her Aquaphor lip balm. “I never don’t wash [my skin] before bed. Also – zinc really helps.”

And what makes her happiest is easy: “Writing songs,” she says. “Deliciously memorable meals. Sleeping in. Riding my horse. A great vintage store score. Plants. Sunshine. A beautiful glass of red wine. Massages.”
