Kate Shapland selects her beauty must-haves

There's little Kate Shapland doesn't know about the beauty industry. And yet her favourite beauty tip is a simple one: 'The best pick-me-up for your skin is a simple egg and oil mask: beat an egg, add a drop of oil (any cooking oil will do) and pat it onto your face with a thick wad of cotton wool,' she tells us. 'Wait 10 minutes and wipe off with a hot flannel. Egg is nourishing and elasticising for skin, and you’ll see the difference immediately.' Try it - it works.

  1. Nature Provence Freshness, £10.50 for 200ml Eau de Cologne, Cadentia: Every splash of this transports you to the south of France – reason enough to never run out of it. It reminds me of the happiest summer holidays.

  2. Air-Lite Daily Lift For Legs, £62, Legology: The product I could not find as a beauty writer so I made it myself with a French chemist. Air-Lite addresses heavy legs and cellulite by promoting lymph flow. It’s scented with uplifting Amalfi lemons.

  3. Unisex Healthy Glow All-Year Hydrating Summer Tint Moisturiser, £35, Charlotte Tilbury: Looks like ordinary white face cream but magically morphs into a tinted cream that gives your skin a visible glow that matches your skin tone as you apply it.

  4. Agrumato Bath Oil, £60, Santa Maria Novella: An indulgent and glamorous bath oil, this is a lather-free skin cleansing and softening oil made with citrus oils, a great source of vitamin C. It works wonders on dry skin and fills the bathroom with clouds of uplifting lemony notes.

  5. Lust: Luxe lip balm in Rose Fantasy, £24, Pat Mcgrath Labs: No one makes lip colour like Pat and this is the one I wear every day. It’s a buttery balm with a pink tint that’s a little bit mauve, which is the best nuance for pale skin. You can put it on your cheeks too as blusher.

  6. Rose Day Cream, £35, Dr. Hauschka: I’ve used this for years and found it more and more valuable and necessary as age – and especially the drop in oestrogen – depletes skin and makes it more sensitive, dry and red, seemingly overnight.

And we love...

Vinylux Long Wear Polish in Popsicle Picnic, ££11.95, CND: Mix spring with the end of lockdown and there’s never been a better excuse to adorn your nails in technicolour. This bright orange polish makes me happy every time I look down at my hands and feet.

101 Ointment Fruities in Watermelon, £8.99, Lanolips: I’ve used the original lip ointment for years, and now it’s been infused with vitamin E for the shine of a lip gloss with the natural nourishment of a balm.

Heritage French Rosewater Toner, £40, Kiehl’s: I’ve recently gone back to using a toner but always look for one that’s non stripping. This is made with rosewater and sustainably sourced Turkish rose petals that leaves my skin baby soft and prepped for my serum. It’s not cheap, but it lasts ages.
