New beauty and wellness salon to open in downtown Port Huron
A Port Huron hair stylist is bringing her talents to downtown Port Huron with the opening of a new beauty and wellness salon.
Madyson Bishop, owner and stylist at Infinite Beauty & Wellness, is moving into 914 Military St. next to Magic Hat Tattoo. She plans to open her salon by Nov. 21.
Bishop is moving her business from its old location at 2928 Pine Grove Ave., near Rite Aid.
Bishop said she decided to move to downtown to giver her business greater visibility. While the old location fulfilled her needs at the time, it isn't visible from the outside. She hopes the location and sign will attract a wider clientele for her employees.
Bishop said she is also excited to be a part of the downtown community and participate in downtown events.
"Downtown, the vibe down here is pretty much to die for...I couldn't imagine being somewhere else because this is ultimately the location I want to be in with just the people walking by and the businesses around us that are constantly growing down here. I just feel like the downtown has been growing the last couple of years, and I couldn't be more thankful to be in it as it's growing." Bishop said.

Bishop's salon specializes in hair extensions and color, including bright vanity colors, and makeup and bridal services.
Nail tech Breann Quinn, who will make the move with Bishop to the new location, will also offer manicures with multi-flex gel, which is healthier for nails than acrylics or dips. It also allows the nail to bend more than traditional acrylics or gels, which makes the nail stronger, Quinn said.
Esthetician Anna Riker said she is excited to make the move with Bishop. She will offer natural, holistic facials, waxing, lash lifts and tub treatments.
“I’m excited to work in such a beautiful place doing the thing I love," Riker said.
The salon is partnering with End of the Lines Beauty to throw a beauty and wellness event from 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 3 with Botox, lip treatments, facials, hot oil hand and feet treatments and B12 infusions. Bishop said she hopes to do periodic pop-up events with other businesses going forward.
The salon's grand opening will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 17. Anyone is welcome to attend and enjoy free drinks, raffles and prizes. The theme is Black Tie and attendees can vie for the best-dressed award for prizes.
Navigating the COVID-19 pandemic as a small business owner
Bishop had been working at HG Salon in Croswell for about five years when she decided to take a leap and open her own business. She planned to open her first salon at the end of March 2020. Then, COVID-19 arrived, and the world shut down.
While she felt like the COVID-19 restrictions set her back for a business that she had worked so hard for, it was also a blessing in disguise. Bishop said the break from work gave her a chance to breathe, spend time with her family and prepare for her business opening.
Bishop opened her salon on June 15, 2020, the first day hair salons were allowed to open due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions.
Riker and Quinn, who are both working with her at her current location on Pine Grove Avenue, said they enjoy working with Bishop's bright, upbeat personality. They described her as a driven and ambitious colleague who strives for a positive work environment.
"Madyson is a magnet of happiness," Quinn said.
Bishop said she chose Port Huron because it's a good central location for all her clients, which come from as far south as metro Detroit and as far north as Marlette.
Bishop said she enjoys the creativity of styling and coloring hair, as well as the relationships she builds with her clients. She enjoys getting to know them and hearing their stories as they get their hair done.
“For me hair is one thing, but the relationship is a whole other," Bishop said. "I love helping people and just having those connections with them, that’s kind of the favorite part of my job.”
She also enjoys making people feel good about themselves and seeing their positive reactions when she turns them around in the chair to see their hair.
"It’s not always about the hair," she said, "It’s about the way I make that person feel."
The salon will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays and by appointment on Saturdays.
