BEAVER FALLS — City council has approved an addendum to the police department’s less than lethal weapons policy.

This addendum allows for the use of PepperBall equipment.

Mayor George Quay III said the equipment shoots non-lethal rounds that, once hit, releases pepper spray like a regular pepper spray machine.

Solicitor working matters

City Solicitor Shannon Steele said she is currently working on a waiver of liability for college students, such as from nearby Geneva College, who want to be interns for the police department, in regard to them driving with officers in police vehicles.

Council also agreed to have Steele begin the process of creating an ordinance to rescind a current ordinance that has the city collect taxes for the Big Beaver Falls School District.

Council members said since the city is moving into a new form of government, a home rule charter, they want the school district to collect its own taxes as to not overwhelm the city manager and soon-to-be-new chief financial officer.
