Beaver Island Community School names valedictorian and salutatorian

BEAVER ISLAND — Beaver Island Community School has announced that McKenna Turner has been named the valedictorian for the Class of 2022, and Jared Robert is the salutatorian.

McKenna is the daughter of Ryann and Rob Turner. She will graduate with a 3.94 grade point average.

While in high school, McKenna played soccer, volleyball and basketball. She was active in the National Honor Society, student council, robotics, and the Dorothy Gerber Strings Program, playing cello. In addition to a demanding high school schedule that involved three AP classes, McKenna earned 24 credits in CAD and drafting technology from Minnesota State College Southeast.

After graduation, McKenna plans to attend Notre Dame University where she will study architecture and structural engineering. She plans to get a master's degree further down the road.

Jared is the son of Debbie and John Robert. He will graduate with a 3.67 grade point average.

While in high school, Jared was a standout varsity athlete in soccer and basketball. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Model United Nations, has taken AP courses, is actively involved with tutoring other students, and volunteers to help senior citizens of Beaver Island.

After graduation, Jared plans to attend Western Michigan University where he will study physics.
