GAYLORD ― After spending much of the 2022 football season nursing injuries, both Gavin Bebble and Brody Jeffers are starting the St. Mary's Snowbirds' basketball season healthy and ready to go.

That means trouble for opposing defenses.

That theme held true for Harbor Lights Christian on Tuesday, December 6 as the Snowbirds bested the visiting Swordsmen, 69-66, picking up their first win of the 2022 season.

St. Mary's started slow, allowing the Swordsmen to take a 25-14 lead after the first quarter. However, the Snowbirds battled back in the next two quarters, taking a 38-36 lead into halftime and a 55-52 lead into the final frame.

It was Bebble that helped keep the Snowbirds afloat in the slow first quarter, pouring in 12 of the team's 14 opening-quarter points.

Bebble led all scorers with 29 points, followed by Jeffers with 24 points.

Daniel Jacobson (six points) and Hogan McKinley (four points) had solid contributions as well.

Now at 1-1 following their opening night loss to Hillman, the Snowbirds are scheduled to travel to East Jordan on Monday, December 12 for their first Ski Valley Conference game of the season.
