Beck and Phoenix bring Summer Odyssey co-headline tour to Austin in August

Genre-hopping mouthpiece of Gen X innovation and disenchantment Beck and exuberant French synth-rockers Phoenix will hit the road this year for Summer Odyssey, a co-headline tour. The show hits the Moody Center in Austin on Aug. 22. Weyes Blood and Sir Chloe will open the Austin stop.

Beck's many Austin appearances include an Austin City Limits Music Festival headline set in 2014. He taped an episode of the festival's namesake television show that same year.

Last year, Beck delivered a keynote address at South by Southwest. He shared stories from the early days of his career, like the time country music legend Johnny Cash opened for him at SXSW 1994, bad advice he's received along the way and thoughts about the future of music. He also played a meandering acoustic set at ACL Live while he was in town.

The members of Phoenix are also frequent flyers on Austin's concert circuit. The band played ACL Fest last year. Guitarist Christian Mazzalai and guitarist/keyboardist Laurent Brancowitz popped by the Austin360 tent backstage in the afternoon before their fantastic Weekend w set. They professed appreciation for our city's weirdness.

""We've traveled in America for a long time now, and we witness (that) it's becoming more and more corporate and similar," Brancowitz told the Statesman. "So places like Austin that are unique and you see individuality, for us, it's a great message to the world."
