Beckenbauer: Munich book of condolence, 'Thank you Franz' on stadium

The state of Bavaria has announced a book of condolence for German football legend Franz Beckenbauer whose club Bayern Munich will illuminate their stadium in his honour.
State chancellery head Florian Herrmann said after a cabinet meeting that prime minister Markus Söder and Bayern Munich representatives would be the first to sign the book on Wednesday, with members of the public then welcome to follow.
It was not clear yet if Beckenbauer, who died on Sunday at age 78, would be honoured im more ways in Bavaria.
Former Bayern player and CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has proposed a memorial service for Beckenbauer in Bayern's 75,000 seat arena.
The club said that the Allianz Arena will light up with the words "Thank you Franz" in the evening hours of 4.30pm to 10pm (1530-2100 GMT) over the coming days, and longer on Friday night when the team plays Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga restart.
Beckenbauer played in Bayern's first team 1964-1977, winning four Bundesliga and Germany Cup titles each, three European Cups, as well as the Cup Winners' Cup and Intercontinental Cup. He won the World as a West Germany player in 1974 and as a coach in 1990, was cheif organizer of the 2006 World Cup and Bayern president 1994-2009.
