BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — The Beckley Travel Plaza and the Bluestone Travel Plaza have been under construction for several months now and the public is curious about what changes will be made to the structures and when they’ll be completed.
The Beckley Travel Plaza is planned to have a Starbucks and a Wendy’s, both of which will be open 24/7. They will also have a Popeye’s. A West Virginia gift shop and a Mountaineer Market for grab and go items will also be included.
Meanwhile, the Bluestone Travel Plaza will have a Wendy’s that will operate on regular hours, a Mountaineer Market, and a smaller coffee area for travelers.
“As you can see, we’re right at about 45-percent complete right now for the Beckley Travel Plaza. Really excited about this project,” said Executive Director of WV Parkways Authority, Jeff Miller. “We’ve seen a lot of great progress, the weather’s been fairly cooperative here this winter, we’ve had some warm days, they’ve been able to be out here and work pretty consistently.”
“Hopefully, I believe we’re gonna be able to have this facility and the facility located at the Bluestone Travel Plaza open by Thanksgiving of this year,” said Miller. “Which is a big travel time, big travel holiday for the West Virginia Turnpike, so we wanna have this open for our patrons.”
The Bluestone Travel Plaza is a bit further along, said Miller, but both are expected to be completed in time for the Thanksgiving holiday travel.
