Bed Bath & Beyond announces 87 more store closures. Here's what will be impacted in Rochester

Bed Bath & Beyond, on the brink of bankruptcy, announced on Tuesday that it will shut down another 87 stores nationwide.

The Rochester area’s remaining two — in Market Square Plaza on Jefferson Road, Henrietta, and at 20 Square Drive, Victor — are not among those being targeted for closure.

However, a buybuy BABY store in Market Square Plaza is closing.

Bed Bath & Beyond owns the buybuy BABY chain, which sells clothing, strollers and other merchandise for infants and young children.

Of buybuy BABY’s 122 U.S. stores, five are closing, including the one in Henrietta, where a 20% off going-out-of-business sale is underway. All sales are final. Checks are not being accepted as payment — just cash and credit cards.

The next closest buybuy BABY store in New York is in Amherst, Erie County.

Founded in 1971 in New Jersey, Bed Bath & Beyond once was one of America's most beloved big-box retailers. Its current struggles are not new, but they are accelerating. In early January, it reported a 33% decline in sales for the third quarter of 2022.

Last week, the company said it has defaulted on its loans and does not have the money to pay its debts. “There is substantial doubt about the company’s ability to continue as a going concern,” it said in a statement.
