Bed, Bath & Beyond bankruptcy: 5 Southwest Florida stores to close, where to get final deals

The big blue coupons throughout your home are officially expiring for good.

More than 350 brick-and-mortar Bed Bath & Beyond locations across the nation already have or will shut down by July 30, including the five locations in Southwest Florida.

In a statement to USA TODAY Network-Florida, Bed Bath and Beyond said: "Bed Bath & Beyond and buybuy BABY closing sales will continue through all stores’ last day open to the public on Sunday, July 30. We encourage customers to shop with us while inventory remains and appreciate their longstanding support and trust in us through their most important life moments for more than 50 years."

According to USA TODAY reports, all 360 Bed Bath and Beyond locations and 120 Buy Buy Baby storefronts will liquidate their stock and shutter their doors for good if they haven't already.

However, there is slight hope — its new owner has announced they will acquire the Bed, Bath and Beyond name, adding they will rebrand the website.

Why are Bed Bath and Beyond stores in Southwest Florida closing?

The chain filed for bankruptcy in April and announced it would close all physical stores.

Bed Bath & Beyond, which was founded in 1971, had been warning of a potential bankruptcy since early January and had announced a series of job cuts and store closures in the past year.

The home goods retailer has experienced a decline in sales and struggled to attract shoppers in recent years.

What is Overstock Inc.?

Overstock is a popular online furniture and home retail store. After winning a $21.5 million auction for Bed Bath & Beyond’s intellectual property, the company is rebranding itself under the former's name.

Overstock announced in a press release last month it completed the acquisition process, changing its loyalty program and transitioning to the Bed Bath & Beyond domain.

“Bed Bath & Beyond is an iconic consumer brand, well-known in the home retail marketplace. The combination of our winning asset-light business model and the high awareness and loyalty of the Bed Bath & Beyond brand will improve the customer experience and position the company for accelerated market share growth, said Jonathan Johnson, chief executive officer of Overstock.

When will Bed Bath and Beyond online shopping return?

As of now, there is no date of when the name change will be adopted and online shoppers in the United States who visit Overstock’s website will be redirected to bedbathandbeyond.com

As of July 19, an image on Bed Bath and Beyond's website states: "bedbathandbeyond.com will return soon! Bed Bath and Beyond and buybuy BABY stores remain open to serve you."
