Bedford, Airport, SMCC announce Homecoming celebrations

Bedford High School, Airport High School and St. Mary Catholic Central High School are all celebrating homecoming this week.

Bedford High School

Homecoming Week continues through Friday. This year’s theme is “Viva Las Vegas.”

Spirit day themes are: Today, PJ Day; Tuesday, Celebrity VS Paparazzi (hats are permitted); Wednesday, Winner Wednesday (wear green/money-themed clothing); Thursday, BBQ Dad and Soccer Mom Day; Friday, BHS Pride/Red Out.

The homecoming parade will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday on Jackman Rd. and Dean Rd., in front of the junior high and high school. Float themes are: Freshmen, Elvis Chapel; sophomores, Lady Liberty; juniors, Caesar's Palace; seniors, Welcome to Vegas sign.

The juniors verses seniors Big Ball Game is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the BHS Stadium. Tickets are $2 and will be sold at the gate. “Come watch the juniors take on the seniors for one of Bedford’s favorite traditions. For the first time, we are also having boys in Big Ball as our cheerleaders,” the school said.

The homecoming football game against the Monroe High School Trojans will be played at 7 p.m. Friday at the BHS stadium. The theme is “Neon Out.”

The 2022 homecoming court includes: Jacob Spoonmore and Kenzie Fields, freshmen court representatives; Cade McNamara and Ava Smith, sophomore court representatives; Walker Schmus and Kate Eaton, junior court representatives.

Senior king and queen candidates are: Dawson Bills, Evan Campbell, Jimmy Fackelman, Carson Oberski, William Salzmann Thorn, Katelyn Dec, Leah Babkiewicz, Brooklyn Elmes, Emily Fleitz and Lorelei Wilburn.

The homecoming dance will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at BHS.

Airport High School

“Lights, Camera, Action” is Airport High School’s homecoming theme.

Spirit Week continues all week. Today’s dress theme is “Breakfast Club”; students wore pajamas. Other daily themes are: Tuesday, “Harry Potter” (class colors); Wednesday, “Billy Madison” (Adam Sandler-themed clothing); Thursday, “Teen Beach Movie” (dress as a surfer or biker); Friday, “Friday Night Lights” (blue and gold).

Several assemblies have been planned. The homecoming court kickoff assembly and court announcements will take place today. Class Spirit Games will be played Thursday. Classes will play games for points. At the end of the week, points will be tallied to determine the class with the most spirit.

The parade will take place at 5 p.m. Friday at Ash-Carleton Park. Parade participants will line-up at 4 p.m. at the park. This year's Grand Marshal is Dr. Joseph Hunt of Carleton.

“When discussing who our Grand Marshal should be this year, Dr. Hunt immediately came to mind,” Kristina Pelz, Student Council advisor and mechatronics instructor, said. “We could not think of any better way to honor Dr. Hunt and all of the wonderful things he has done for our community other than to be our Grand Marshal this year and lead the Jets to victory.”

The Airport football team will play the Jefferson Bears at 7 p.m. Friday at the AHS football field. The homecoming king and queen and court announcements will be made during half-time.

The dance will take place from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the AHS gym. Tickets are $12.

Homecoming court members are: Mr. Airport, Ryan Lewis; Miss Airport, Elizabeth Ferrante, and Miss DAR, Sydney Jorgensen.

Queen candidates are Rylee Choike, Ava Dupuie, Faith Walls, Lauren Monske and Makayla Ridner.

King candidates are Jackson Amaya, Kyle Harvell, Drew VanWasshenova, Zander Connally and Jake Bradley.

Class representatives are: Raschel Weaver and Colin Nowak, juniors; Hannah Roof and Bryce Kull, sophomores, and Olivia Gratz and Aidyn Stahr, freshmen.

St. Mary Catholic Central

SMCC’s homecoming theme is “There’s No Place Like Homecoming,” based on “The Wizard of Oz.”

Today’s dress theme is “There’s a Storm Coming.” Freshmen wore white; sophomores, green; juniors, purple; seniors, black, and staff, blue. A “dog food” eating contest will be held at lunchtime.

Tuesday’s dress theme is Twister Tuesday. Mismatched clothes will be worn. A tongue twister activity will be held during lunch.

Wednesday's dress theme is "Which Witch is Which?," twin day. Pin the wart on the witch will be played at lunch. The PowderPuff football game is at 2 p.m.

Thursday's theme is Midwestern. Country attire will be worn. Country karaoke is on tap at lunchtime.

Friday’s dress theme is spirit wear and court shirts. A “Wiz of Oz” Kahoot will be offered during lunch.

Also set for Friday is a homecoming liturgy and a pep rally at 1:40 p.m.

The homecoming parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday and will travel from the SMCC parking lot to Navarre Field. The parade will continue the “Wizard of Oz” theme, and classes created floats to follow the theme. The seven queen candidates will be part of the parade. Ava Kuehnlein, 2021 homecoming queen, also will attend.

The homecoming football game will begin at 7 p.m.; SMCC will play Flat Rock High School.

The homecoming dance is from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday.

The 2022 homecoming queen’s court includes: Lauren Conant, Avery Dalton, Charlotte Jones, Olivia Owens, Presley Riggs, Caroline Roecker and Raelyn Turner.
