Bedford area-artist Mitchell Schuring is one of 24 artists selected for a very public arts program called Hoosier Historia.

According to a press release from the Indiana Pacers, "this is a statewide effort that gives Hoosiers a chance to vote on the most iconic moments from Indiana High School basketball history. After a competitive application process led by the Indy Arts Council, the 24 artists who will bring these moments to life have been chosen."

"The selected artists will paint their interpretation on 6-foot basketball sculptures, which will be on display throughout the Downtown Home Court during NBA All-Star 2024."

Indianapolis is hosting the NBA All-Star game on Sunday, Feb.18, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Schuring's entry is titled "Muncie Central's Unmatched Record of Success."

The Times-Mail corresponded with Schuring via email to find out more about his career, and how this project came to be.

Schuring spent time at Purdue University before moving from Lafayette to Bedford in 2015 to raise a family.

Schuring said, "I have been painting large-scale murals with spray paint as my medium of choice since 2014. I've produced large-scale murals and street art all over Indiana. I hope to expand my reach to other states across the country in the near future.

"Bedford locals don't have to travel too far to see some of my previous work. I painted the chicken years ago in the Harp Commons on the side of what is now Sweet Cakes bakery. I also (did paintings) at the Bedford Library, Timeless Images Photography, and Smokin' Paradise. My newest painting in town is the Big Foot mural on the side of Good Sports on 17th St. When I'm not painting murals or hanging with the family, you can find me at my second home, designing for Good Sports Custom Silk Screen and Embroidery."

About the Hoosier Historia Project Schuring said, "I found out about the program through an Artist Call Out posted by the Indy Arts Council. I apply for stuff like this all the time. Sometimes I get picked, sometimes I don't. I'm really glad they emailed me back, and I got the opportunity to do this."
