Bedford Board of Works approves promotions for Bedford Fire Department

BEDFORD — The Bedford Board of Works & Safety approved several promotions within the Bedford Fire Department Tuesday during a meeting at City Concourse.

The retirement of Kenny Tumey Jan. 8 opened the door for the changes in rank at BFD.

BFD Chief John Hughes said Tumey served the city for 29 1/2 years.

"He served very well and he will be missed," Hughes said.

BOW members Judy Carlisle, Charlene Hall (attending via Zoom) and Mayor Sam Craig approved the following promotions:

  • Capt. Bruce Deckard to battalion chief

  • Lt. Jeff Armstrong to captain

  • Senior firefighter David Zeeks to lieutenant

  • Firefighter first class Shane Nolan to senior firefighter

Board members also approved a mowing contract. The one-year contract for $49,500 was awarded to James and Barbara Baxter. Street Commissioner Dave Flinn presented the contract to the board. The contract covers about 30 different locations in the city.
