New Bedford Eats: New places, looks, and menus on the SouthCoast

It's time to come out of winter hibernation and enjoy the SouthCoast food scene. We are fortunate to see new places opening in the area, fan favorites getting updates, and new inspiring food being added to menus.

Foodies, this is your time to embrace all the great things happening in the New Bedford area. There is lots of food to be eaten, drinks to sip, and sites to be explored.

New restaurant alert: there is a new joint in town

This week was the opening of Sixes & Sevens, at 7 South 6th St., New Bedford, with a laid-back and classic menu. They are dishing out apps, smash burgers, hot dawgs, wings, and sandwiches. Try the Pulled Pork Quesadilla with tender braised pork shoulder, cheddar cheese, pickled peppers and red onion in a griddled flour tortilla served with avocado poblano ranch ($11), the Atomic Dog with habanero and bacon jam topped with cheddar cheese and served with fried chips ($7) or the Nunchuck Sandwich with grilled homemade meatloaf topped with pineapple express sauce and melted provolone cheese on toasted sourdough with fried chips ($14).

Nothing like a quick summer treat to enjoy in the warmer weather. Village Pizza and Ice Cream has officially opened its ice cream window for the season. At 760 Main Road, Westport, they sell all sorts of classic Italian food and pizzas but you don’t want to miss out on their numerous ice cream flavors. With something for everyone, they have vegan and non-dairy offerings as well as their newest flavors Peanut Butter Oreo, Purple Haze Raspberry Oreo, or Girl Scout Cookie Mint.

'Paired With Portugal': Five-course dinner and wine pairing

A special night with an authentic Portuguese feast and delicious wine pairing at Nuno's Restaurant & Lounge. In a collaboration with Brands of Portugal, they are hosting a  unique experience that features 5 courses paired perfectly with unique wines throughout Portugal. This 21-plus event has limited seating and will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at 436 Belleville Ave., New Bedford. This week’s special roll at Poi Market is the Spicy Double Dragon with spicy salmon and tempura asparagus inside, topped with tuna, avocado, spicy mayo, and eel sauce ($17). They also have the Lemon Salmon with crunch-fried garlic, spicy mayo, mixed greens, avocado, torched salmon, lemon juice, and tobiko ($16) or Hawaii "Five-O" with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and cucumber inside, topped with hamachi, tuna, and a house-made Hawaiian sauce ($18). Endzone Sports Pub at 218 Coggeshall St, New Bedford, has had a complete transformation, they have a new look and menu as well as now being open daily for lunch. They have a host of $12 lunch and dinner specials such as a Bourbon Bacon Burger, Bifana Sandwich, Meatloaf, Grilled Shrimp Skewers, and more; half-priced apps Monday through Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. with nachos, wings, cherrystones, quesadillas and more; and new menu items such as Seafood Cakes, Portuguese Poutine, Mac Attack Burger, and Sweet Chili Lime Salmon. Along with a new spring food menu, The Airport Grille has put out a new Spring drink menu for you to enjoy. Ready for some new inspired cocktails? They have Gummy Bear Martini, Spiked Raspberry Tea (with popping boba), Aperol Spritz, Spiked Blueberry Lemonade, Berry Lime Rickey, Spicy Fresh Margarita, and Key Lime Martini. The taste test begins at 1569 Airport Road, New Bedford.
