Bee Cave mayor: City shows support for teachers, commuters

Bee Cave has a lot of exciting events and developments in the pipeline to support the people who help make this community so wonderful. On Thursday, we are rolling out a gas card program that will help small business owners retain their employees who drive into Bee Cave from more than 15 miles each way to work in our restaurants, retail shops and other businesses.

This program evolved from an idea posed at our last Business Roundtable and we’re excited to partner up with the Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce on this initiative. The Bee Cave Economic Development Board agreed to match up to $15,000 in donations to the fund and we’re giving community members a chance to contribute through a GoFundMe campaign. We have already raised almost $4,000 from businesses in the community that want to help and we know our generous residents will help us hit the $15,000 goal in no time. Contributions can be made at this link: gofund.me/2198b4b2.

Speaking of community, we want to thank everyone who came out for our “Bee Sweet” ice cream social in early August to benefit our Lake Travis school district teachers. Through contributions from residents and a major contribution from the Hill Country Galleria, LTISD received almost $8,000 in gift cards to pass out to teachers in the first week of school. Additionally, to support our teachers, at the City Council meeting on Aug. 23, we signed a proclamation officially recognizing World Teacher’s Day on Oct. 5. This international movement is meant to help communities everywhere give the recognition and gratitude our teachers deserve. Come on by Bee Cave City Hall at the end of September to pick up a free thank you card for a teacher in your life.

Also in October, we have some fun events you’ll want to make sure to attend: the Bee Cave Public Library’s car show and our annual Haunted Trail. Be on the lookout for the dates in the coming weeks on our website. You may also notice some construction in front of City Hall toward the end of October, when our holiday ice rink is being built and installed. The ice rink will be up in November and December and we expect it to be a huge hit with our residents and visitors alike. Between the ice rink, the holiday market on the lawn of the Hill Country Galleria and all our fabulous shops and restaurants, Bee Cave will be the Hill Country holiday destination this year.

The City Council is expected to approve a new budget in September and as a sales-tax funded city, we are happy to be able to provide so many services and amenities to residents without having to raise property taxes and while also having one of the lowest property tax rates in the state. One of our most valued resources is our wonderful Police Department and the council recently approved to accept bids to build a new police station that will accommodate our force and provide officers with the resources they need.

To stay up to date on all the events and community opportunities in the city, please follow us on our social media pages and visit our website: beecavetexas.gov. Speaking of the website, expect a new one to go live in the next month.
