Do you like beef, chicken and pork? Meet the Finger Lakes farmers who bring it to you

CANANDAIGUA, NY – To correct the boast in the fast-food TV commercial that seems to air constantly, New York Kitchen has the meat. Or at least it will this Sunday.

Meat & Greet is making a return after the event created to connect local farmers and meat producers with consumers had been on hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The free event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at New York Kitchen, 800 S. Main St., Canandaigua, in partnership with the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County. The event formerly was held at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

Consumers will be able to learn more about where their meat comes from and talk with farmers and producers in addition to purchasing products such as half and whole animals, signing up for Community Supported Agriculture shares, or CSAs, learning tips and techniques at chef demonstrations and more.

Speaking of demonstrations, here is the demo schedule: 11 a.m. beef; noon pork; and 1 p.m. chicken and lamb.

Participants include Rugenstein Family Farm, Coryn Red Cattle Co., The Woods, Chosen Grove Farm, Pickering Farms, SG Angus Farm, Little Creek Farm, Fire Creek Farms, Stonehedge Beef Farm, Next Generation Farms, Phillips Farms, My Little Farm and Cutco Cutlery.

Registration is not required, but is suggested to provide a better idea of how many people will be coming. Doing so comes with a bonus.

A day-of raffle will feature meaty items and a certificate for two to take a hands-on cooking class at New York Kitchen. Those who preregister will receive a bonus entry in the drawing.

Fill up your cool glass with craft beer for Pint Days

The New York State Brewers Association has unveiled the design of the fourth annual New York State Pint Days, which will take place over Thanksgiving week, Nov. 20 to Nov. 26.

During that week, craft beer fans can visit participating breweries across the state to collect the annually released commemorative NYS Pint Days glassware in this fundraising event.

The $1 per glass directly supports the New York State Brewers Association mission to unify, protect and propel the state's more than 500 independent craft breweries through advocacy, education and promotion.

Each year, the pint glass features a new, unique design that celebrates New York craft beer.

Here is the winning design that will appear on glassware during New York State Pint Days in November. Joanna Brotherton, a craft beer enthusiast from East Setauket, Suffolk County, is the artist.
