Beekeeper Creates a Buzz at 5 Years Old

A 5-year-old boy in North Carolina is already learning how to be a beekeeper.

This video, recorded by Sankofa Farms, shows young Akeem Bell showing off his beekeeping skills by smoking bees in order to subdue them. He then points out the queen of a colony, nestled in a mass of bees.

Akeem first tried beekeeping at age 4. “His whole life he’s loved bees and has never been afraid,” Akeem’s father, Kamal Bell, the farm’s CEO, told Storyful. “The thing that impressed me the most is how quickly he grasps the concepts around beekeeping.”

On its website, Sankofa Farms says its goal is “to create a sustainable food source for minorities in both rural and urban areas located in Durham and Orange County, North Carolina.” Credit: Sankofa Farms via Storyful
