Beer crawls, cornhole and lumberjacks: Hawley Harvest Hoedown set for this weekend

Hawley Harvest Hoedown is planned this Saturday October 1 and Sunday October 2. New this year are two special events in Bingham Park, Pocono Cornhole and a professional lumberjack competition, this Saturday starting at noon.The Hoedown is hosted by Downtown Hawley Partnership (DHP).

Other highlights include children's activities, a petting zoo, scarecrow costume contest, live music, Fall Beer Crawl, horse and wagon rides, craft vendors, a bluegrass concert, and local foods. Church Street and Keystone Street between Main and Penn Avenues will be closed to traffic, where vendors and other activities will be.

DHP has arranged with Pennsylvania Professional Lumberjack Organization for lumberjacks and lumberjills to compete and showcase their skills. Some of the events include the standing block and underhand chop, springboard, crosscut, bow saw, chainsaw, log roll, and axe throw.

Partnership with Pocono Cornhole plus other events

The DHP is also partnering with Pocono Cornhole, a group out of the Stroudsburg area, for a Saturday afternoon of cornhole. Pocono Cornhole will bring the boards and the competition. Participants need to bring their own bags to throw (no corn filled bags). The cost will be $50 per team and there will be two divisions for all skill levels; six games guaranteed— four Round Robin games for seeding followed by a double elimination bracket.

The Keystone Street Party on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. before the evening concert includes music by The Lost Ramblers and Uncle Jake & The 18 Wheel Gang along with games and dancing. The cost for that event is $10; pay on site.

The Saturday night Bluegrass Concert starts at 7:30 p.m., at the Ritz Company Playhouse, 512 Keystone Street. Musical acts include Mark Miklos, Robert Mabe Band and The Feinberg Brothers. Tickets are available at the DHP website or at Teeters Furniture. A live performance stage has also been added this year with many craftspeople demonstrating their talents and live music. Oktoberfest, Fall Crawl set for Saturday

The Hoedown Fall Crawl will be held at participating local restaurants and taverns. Enjoy a Hoedown Special cocktail or mocktail, complete your game card by October 2 to receive a free signature Hoedown pint glass.

Participating locations include the Crazy Country Club, The Dock on Wallenpaupack, Glass.wine.bar.kitchen at Ledges, Gresham's Chop House, Hopping Eagle Brewing Co., Settlers Inn, Wallenpaupack Brewing Co., the Wake Zone, and a special "Oktoberfest" at the Alpine Wurst House, soon to be known as The Vault 240.

Oktoberfest kicks off at noon and goes to 5 p.m. in the old Hawley Bank building at 240 Main Street, Hawley. Get a taste of Germany by sampling German foods, enjoy the Biergarten and live music. The indoor/outdoor Oktoberfest event is for those aged 21 and over, tickets are $10 per person at the door.
