Beer garden and family fun center opens for summer, educational store moves into downtown

Skylark’s opens beer garden

Skylark’s Cafe will be reopening its beer garden for the summer on Friday, May 19.

“We have the largest outdoor summer beer garden in downtown Fairhaven and we really have made it our goal to celebrate the community by offering free live music featuring the area’s most talented live local and regional musicians,” Rose Forsgren, Skylark’s Events Manager wrote in an email to The Bellingham Herald.

Musicians such as Andie Whitewing, The Pennystinkers, and Jaeden Luke, a Washington-based contestant from NBC’s last season of “The Voice”.

The beer garden is kid and dog friendly and will have free live entertainment every Friday and Saturday from 5-8 and on Sunday holiday weekends throughout the season.

Skylark’s Cafe is at 1308 11th St. in Bellingham.

Station 49 opens for the summer

Station 49, an entertainment center featuring go-karts, mini golf, an arcade, miniature train and a saloon, opened on May 9 for the summer season. Visitors can enjoy the activities along with live music and beer, ice cream and other snacks from the saloon. Station 49 is regularly open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays, but sometimes closes due to rain. Education store moves to downtown Bellingham

Launching Success, a retail store that sells educational toys and materials for all ages is moving from 133 Prince Ave. to a new location in downtown Bellingham at 1707 N. State St., a 6,000 square foot space, according to a news release.

“We love children and believe that good education equips young people to become adults who make our communities a better place to live. Our goal is to provide educators and parents teaching tools that lead to the best learning possible,” co-owner Jen Scheib wrote.

Launching Sucess is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The Prince Ave. location will close May 24, and the new location will open May 30.

City of Bellingham Meet-A-Truck event

The Bellingham Public Works Department is holding its annual Meet-A-Truck event where citizens can tour the trucks and equipment the department uses to keep Bellingham beautiful. The free event runs from 1-3 p.m. on May 25 and includes demonstrations, activities, crafts, and a book station hosted by the Bellingham Public Library, according to a news release from the department.

The event will be outside, rain or shine between City Hall and the library at 210 Lottie St.
