Don't hibernate
Want to get that blood pumping, head out to Mariposa Basin Park for the Chilly Willy 5K/10K/Half Marathon.
The races start at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, and start/finish is at the park, 4900 Kachina St. NW.
Regular registration ends Jan. 13 and prices run $35 for the 5K, $45 for 10K and $60 for the half marathon. Prices increase on race day. Visit active.com for registration or more info.
Bee prepared
The Xeric Garden Club of Albuquerque will be hosting native bee specialist Lu Lu Sage as she speaks about "How Many Species Will This Plant Support?"
The talk will discuss diverse plants in our habitats and how they provide for species that visit at different times of day and in different seasons.
The free event will be held 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Albuquerque Garden Center, 10120 Lomas Blvd. NE.

Throw on your biker jacket and get ready to return to Neo-Tokyo.
The Guild Cinema is hosting the anime classic "Akira" in a pair of 35th anniversary screenings.
Friday, Jan. 13, the movie will be screened in Japanese with English subtitles at 10:30 p.m.
Then, Saturday, Jan. 14, the 1 p.m. screening will feature the English-dubbed version.

Music and dance
Solid Grounds Coffee House presents live music (and, of course, coffee) every Saturday.
Saturday, Jan. 14, Albuquerque bluegrass band No Strings Attached will take the stage at 6:30 p.m.
Attendees will also have the chance to boogie down on the new dance floor. The event is free, as are the cookies, coffee and Italian sodas.

Monster mash
Four-wheel behemoths are coming to the Rio Rancho Events Center for two days of monster truck action.
The Toughest Monster Truck Tour will let the dirt fly at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, and 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14.
Tickets start at $15, plus fees, at ticketmaster.com. For an additional $10 you can add on the preshow pit party pass.

The dream remembered
In honor of the Civil Rights leader, several events are slated in observation of the work and life of Martin Luther King Jr.
At 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, "Civil Rights Journey: A Passport to Discovery" will be held at The African American Performing Arts Center, Expo NM, 310 San Pedro Dr. NE. The event is free and food will be served.
Then beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, the MLK Commemorative March will start on the UNM campus at the corner of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and University Boulevard NE. The march will be followed by a resource and vendor fair at Civic Plaza.

'American Legacies'
The Santa Fe Symphony is delivering a program of American favorites at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15.
The concert at the Lensic Performing Arts Center, 211 W. San Francisco St. in Santa Fe, will feature music by Jan Bach, William Grant Still and George Gershwin.
