Bees sting man 250 times and his dog 50 times in Arizona neighborhood, officials say

A 60-year-old man was swarmed by bees while out with his dog in Arizona, officials said.

John Fisher was hospitalized after being stung over 250 times by swarming bees in Florence, according to KPHO.

Fisher was riding his wheelchair-exercise bike with his pup, Pippin, on Saturday, May 20, when thousands of bees started flying around them, according to ABC 15 Arizona. Pippin, tied to the front of the wheelchair with his leash, was stung 50 times.

“Next thing I know, there were bees all over me and all over the dog,” Fisher told KPHO. “I tried to get across the street, but I couldn’t see because they were going towards my eyes, and they’re all over my face.”

Fisher’s wheelchair flipped during the chaos and Pippin, who’s allergic to bee stings, was able to escape, according to a GoFundMe page.

“I crawled my way for a period of time to try to get far away from where they were, but they just followed me,” Fisher said, according to KPHO.

On May 22, a beekeeper located the “agitated hive” and sprayed it, according to a May 23 Facebook post by the Florence Fire Department.

Officials helped fix Fisher’s wheelchair that was damaged and he’s recovering, fire officials said.

As for Pippen, he’s experiencing “reactions to the bee sting toxins” and is “back in the danger zone,” according to the GoFundMe page. He is expected to stay at the vet for the next few days.

In California, a dog named Chance was stung over 700 times by a swarm of bees after a neighbor tried to remove a hive in his backyard, McClatchy News reported.

Although Chance, 2, received two blood transfusions, after a five-day fight, FOX 11 reported he died.

Florence is about 60 miles southeast of Phoenix.
