Work Begins to Clear Oaxaca Streets Strewn With Debris From Hurricane Agatha

Hurricane Agatha, which killed at least 11 people across the Mexican state of Oaxaca, left fallen trees and other debris on the streets in San Pedro Pochutla, officials said on May 31.

The US-based National Hurricane Center (NHC), said the storm made landfall west of Puerto Angel in Oaxaca — just over 7 miles (12 km) south of San Pedro Pochutla — on May 30, with maximum sustained winds of nearly 105 mph (165 km/h). The NHC said Agatha was the strongest May hurricane on record to make landfall on the Pacific coast of Mexico since record keeping began in 1949.
