The worst-kept secret of the 2019-20 season is out of the bag, as Bo Horvat was finally named as the 14th captain of the Vancouver Canucks prior to Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Kings.

Horvat was revealed as the choice in a pre-game ceremony but it turns out his teammates knew ahead of time as the Canucks drew back the curtain and provided us with a behind-the-scenes look of the announcement.

Daniel and Henrik Sedin joined the Canucks for the announcement, the latter serving as the last captain in franchise history.

Horvat then made a brief speech upon putting on his jersey with the newly stitched “C,” imploring his teammates to continue on their goal of making it back to the playoffs.

The 24-year-old then released a longer statement Thursday evening about what the captaincy means to him.

The Horvat era couldn’t be off to a better start as the Canucks routed the Los Angeles Kings 8-2, though Horvat had a relatively quiet evening, adding one assist in the victory.

By all accounts, it appears Horvat is the right man for the job and we can’t get enough heartwarming content to begin the season.
