At long last, we finally know Behr's 2020 Color of the Year: A beautiful light green called Back to Nature. The brand describes the color as "calm, gracious, and balanced," and a way to bring the outside in.

"Getting out there in nature also is known to have a huge impact, a positive impact, on our health and wellbeing," says Erika Woelfel, Behr's VP of Color and Creative Services said at an event announcing the color. "It also has been shown to improve creativity, boost memory, improve your problem-solving skills as well." That's exactly why the brand chose Back to Nature: It's all about encouraging people to engage with the Great Outdoors.

Green was the immediate choice to achieve that goal. "It's kind of like nature's neutral—just infinite varieties of green, from very very light greens to very dark, mysterious green, to glamorous emerald greens and citrus greens—just a huge, huge range," Woeful explains. Of course, Woelfel says, Back to Nature is "a restorative, subtle, effortless, meadow-inspired hue."

And as it turns out, Back to Nature was right under our noses the whole time. Well, at least since June, when Behr released its 2020 Color Trends palette. The palette includes three categories, all of which were "inspired by the world around us," Woelfel said on Wednesday at a press event. That the environment inspired the palette and the Color of the Year was clear, especially at today's big reveal: It took place at Calistoga Ranch, a secluded wine ranch in Napa, California where guests were surrounded by stunning views at every turn.

The 2020 Color Trends palette, in case you missed it earlier this summer, is split into three categories of five colors each. First, there's Worldhood, which includes warm, earthy reds, browns, oranges, pinks, and yellows; then, there's Restore, which features beautiful greens and blues (like the color Dragonfly, seen above, along with Back to Nature); and finally, Atmospheric, with soft, light neutrals like grays and whites alongside a stunning dusty lilac.

As always, if this reveal has you inspired to get painting, you can find Back to Nature alongside the rest of Behr's 2020 Color Trends collection (and all of the furniture and decor seen in the above vignettes!) at Home Depot.
