After being grounded for nearly two years, the 19th Annual Apple Valley Airshow and NAPA Car Display is heading back to the High Desert.

The airshow on Oct. 8 will include aerobatic performances, warbirds, a formation flying team and skydivers commanding the skies over the Apple Valley Airport.

On the ground, visitors can visit an array of aircraft, the NAPA Auto Parts Car Show, a STEM Expo, a kids area, military vehicles and food vendors

A variety of vendors will also be on hand selling items such as aircraft-inspired clothing, books, toys and more.

Organizers are giving away a set of four airshow tickets along with four tickets to see the long-awaited film “Top Gun:Maverick” starring Tom Cruise.

To enter, visit the Apple Valley Airshow Facebook page and let them know why you want the tickets. The winner will be announced on May 25.

Grounded

After a successful airshow in 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic the following year shut down the show for two years.

In 2019, the show’s air performances included the Just In Time Skydivers parachuting in as the Hi-Country Harmonaires sang the Star-Spangled Banner.

Skydivers descended from the sky and pilot Tony Higa took to the air in his Pitts Special S1S, garnering oohs and ahs from the crowds with his gravity-defying aerobatics.

Formation flights were conducted by the West Coast Ravens RV and Red Eagles teams along with aerobatics from pilot Rob Harrison “The Tumbling Bear,” and pilots Chuck Coleman and Anthony Oshinuga.

Pilot John Collver demonstrated his flying abilities in his “Wardog,” a North American AT-6, and the Planes of Fame performed fly-by, which included the North American B-25 Mitchell, Vought F4U Corsair and Curtiss P-40 Warhawk.

If you go

Organizers suggest that visitors to the show bring chairs and blankets, and wear sunglasses, hats and sunscreen.

No animals are allowed at the show except for ADA Compliant Certified Service Animals. No large umbrellas, canopies, large ice chests or alcohol is allowed.

Tickets are $10, with cash taken at the gate. Kids 11 and under are free. Parking is also free.

The airshow is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 8 at the Apple Valley Airport, 21600 Corwin Road.
