Belarus will hold joint military exercises with Russia on its territory in 2025, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said in an interview with Russian propagandists, the monitoring group Belarusian Hajun reported on Telegram on Feb. 22.

The military exercises will be aimed at "ensuring the military security of the Union State."

"The whole range of activities we are planning and conducting revolves around this task," said Khrenin.

“The regional grouping includes almost all the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus. From the Russian Federation, it includes a number of associations and military units from the Aerospace Forces. But this is not static, it can change based on the conditions.”

Russia and Belarus conduct joint military exercises every two years, according to the decision made in 2009.

The military exercises were to take place in 2023. Belarus and Russia scheduled them for September, but they were eventually canceled.

A week before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Belarusian and Russian militaries held the Allied Resolve 2022 drills.

The Telegram channel Belarusian Hajun reported on Feb. 5 the movement of Belarusian equipment closer to the border with Ukraine, to Brest Oblast, although no official reports of military exercises were made.

A representative of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, said later that the deployment of additional Belarusian equipment closer to the border with Ukraine primarily concerned the direction of Brest, where military drills often take place.
