The detainee claimed he is a Belarusian border guard officer, who wanted to join the fight against Russia on Ukraine's side, the State Border Service of Ukraine reported on July 13.

He served in the Brest border group. He wanted to join the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the war against Russia, and that is why he decided to cross the border.

The man also said he wasn’t alone in this. Another Belarusian border guard went to Ukraine with him, but on the way to the border, they were discovered and pursued with gunfire. Only one could cross the state border.

Currently, the information voiced by the detainee is being verified.

Belarusian Radio Liberty reported on July 12 that a Belarusian border guard illegally crossed the border with Ukraine. On Ukrainian territory, he was arrested for two days.
