Belarusian Police Detain Protesters at Memorial Rally for Anti-Government Activist
Hundreds of people were detained on November 15 during a rally in Minsk, Belarus, honoring the death of anti-government protester Roman Bondarenko, local media reported.
According to local reports, uniformed and armed officers released tear gas and stun grenades to disperse a peaceful crowd rallying on Pushkinskaya Street, injuring several people. Police then detained those gathered at the national memorial of Bondarenko.
Bondarenko died on November 12 after being allegedly beaten and detained by the police a day prior, according to local new reports. Since then, protesters have also gathered throughout abroad, including in New York and Washington, to honor him and continue protesting against the government of Belarus.
