Belarusian ‘rail partisan’ sentenced to 13 years in prison

Melnik, dubbed a “rail partisan”, was accused of setting fire to a relay cabinet of an automatic blocking traffic light on the night of March 24-25, 2022, on the Novosady-Borisov stretch near the village of Stayki.

As a result, 22 freight and 17 passenger trains were delayed.
Melnik was charged under Belarusian laws against “terrorism", the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, intentional damage to alarm systems and other transport equipment, and the public insult of dictator Alexander Lukashenko.
On Jan. 5, Russia reportedly handed over a new batch of BTR-82A armored personnel carriers to Belarus. This is the third set of this equipment transferred to Belarus.

On Jan. 6, Russia moved at least 50 more units of materiel to Belarus. Later, the Ministry of Defense of Belarus confirmed the arrival of a Russian echelon in the country, but did not name the number of Russian soldiers and equipment in it.
