PLAIN TWP. − The Belden Village Kiwanis Club inducted officers Sept. 15 during a picnic meeting at Plain Township’s Veterans Park.

The service club also honored meritorious members of the organization dedicated to serving the children of Jackson Township, Plain Township, North Canton, Tuslaw and beyond. Ohio Gov. Craig Smith installed John Egert, president; Ken Griffin, president elect; Lyndon Thomas, treasurer; Nancy Wise-Miller, secretary; and Joyce Salapack, immediate past president. Dick Lab, Bill Johnson, Dave Wackerly, Jim Myers and Ralph Norton were installed as members of the board of directors. Smith also inducted Laurel Heath, the newest member of the Belden Village Club.

Plans for a yearlong 50th anniversary celebration began by recognizing four exemplary works for the club: Wackerly, Legion of Honor Award, 50 years of service, accepted by his son and daughter, Sean Wackerly and Tina Kiegawa; the late Bill Steinmetz, Legion of Honor Award, 24 years of service, accepted by Cindy Green; Bob Allerton, Past International President Award, 56 years of service (10 years with Belden Village Kiwanis); and Bill Johnson, Hixson Award, 50 years of service.

Other guests participating in the program included Dave Kuhn, Kiwanis Ohio governor-elect, and Tom Stahlheber, lieutenant governor of Ohio District 17 and a past president of the Belden Village Club.
