Bella Hadid’s New Bob Makes Its Milan Fashion Week Debut

Bella Hadid is a California girl. So it's no wonder the supermodel—and her freshly-shorn, sun-kissed bleached bob—were right at home on Alberta Ferretti's runway tonight inside the Piazza Lina Bo Bardi.

As the Police's "Roxanne" blared out of the speakers, it set a pitch-perfect mood for hairstylist Duffy as he finessed Hadid's lengths into artfully rumpled waves. The goal? "'70s surf texture," Duffy declared as he raked Wella's Perfect Setting lotion through the ends before blow-drying the hair smooth and creating loose bends with a 2-inch curling iron. "It’s freshly-washed beach hair," he said, wanting to make a clear distinction from the grit of salty, stringy strands. "It’s got an airiness to it. Just cool and effortless." But texture was just one part of the insouciant equation.

Next up was the ever-elusive hair tuck. "When you tuck it behind the ear completely, it looks too intentional," he explained, slipping Hadid's peroxided wisps behind her left ear. "Leave a bit out, then bring it over so it looks like a gesture." Gliding down the runway in a diaphanous navy gown, Hadid may have been faking her laissez-faire hair, but she evoked a kind of breeziness that can't be taught. You can take the girl out of California, but you can't take the California out of the girl.
