Bella Thorne Posts Photos of Julia Roberts and Madonna Rocking Armpit Hair

The icons who came before her.

When it comes to beauty, we can always count on Bella Thorne to be unapologetically herself. Whether it's discussing the skin treatment she uses for her acne scars or coordinating her colorful hair with her lipstick, there is nothing the 21-year-old shies away from. Now, Bella is opening up about who inspires another one of her signature trends: rocking her underarm hair.

On November 16, the actor and musician shared a carousel on Instagram of two icons who embraced their body hair before her. The first pic shows the famous moment when Julia Roberts walked the red carpet for the Notting Hill premiere in 1999, waving at fans with her underarm hair in full view. In the second photo, the one and only Madonna poses for the camera in a black bustier while lifting up her arm. The carousel then concludes with a pic of Bella onstage, raising her arms at the crowd à la Julia, with the caption, "Beautiful in every way." Agreed!

Although there is still a pervasive stigma surrounding body hair, especially for women and femmes, Bella, Julia, and Madonna are all examples of the fact that the natural state of our bodies is nothing to be ashamed of. While some people may choose to remove their body hair, others may decide to keep it, and both options are totally okay. In fact, even though Bella has dealt with her fair share of haters for not shaving, some of her fans have also thanked her for giving them the confidence to embrace their own hair.

And like the leading ladies in Bella's IG post, more and more celebrities, including Halsey, Paris Jackson, and Lourdes Leon are publicly supporting the fact that there's no shame in the body hair game. No matter how many internet trolls try to come for Bella and her decision, one thing's for sure: she's in great company.
