Bella Vista mayor discusses millage increase ballot issue with residents

BELLA VISTA, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Bella Vista residents will see a millage increase issue on their ballot in the upcoming primary election.

It is a 0.5 mill increase in property taxes Or $20 a year for the average homeowner. It will go towards police officers’ pension plans.

Mayor John Flynn met with residents on January 23 to tell them about the issue.

He says the pensions cost around $600,000 and the increase would put $314,000 towards that cost.

“A lot of it is just educating and informing the voters so they know what’s on there when they get in the ballot and get in there to vote. They’re not surprised, not taken off guard and they know what it’s about,” Flynn said.

The city is holding another public information meeting at 3 p.m. on February 6 at the Bella Vista Police Department training room.
