Actor Belle Mariano made history on Thursday as the first Filipino woman to win Outstanding Asian Star at the 17th Seoul International Drama Awards.

While some Filipinos have won the award in the past, Mariano is the first Filipino woman to do so. She won for her lead role in the acclaimed TV series “He’s Into Her.”

Out of 175 nominated actors across Asia, only five in total received the Outstanding Asian Star award. The other winners this year were Alice Ko from Taiwan, Yusei Yagi from Japan, Wallace Chung from China and Krit Amnuaydechkorn from Thailand.

While on the red carpet, Mariano introduced herself in Korean in an effort to connect with her Korean fans.

“And lastly, to the woman who molded me to the woman I am today, my mother, thank you so much. I love you. Mahal ko kayong lahat at mabuhay tayong lahat. [I love you all and long live to everyone].”
