Belleview's Niya Johnson scores program record 32 points in win over West Port

It was a Wednesday night of milestones for the Belleview girls basketball team.

Niya Johnson set a program record for points in a game with 32, as visiting BHS defeated West Port for just the second time in school history.

The 43-41 victory was the fourth straight for Belleview, which also got 7 points and 7 rebounds from Zakiya Scruggs. Johnson’s point total was one better than the previous record of 31 set by Bekah DiLavore in 2017.

The Rattlers (12-5) will host Mount Dora on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., while WPHS (7-8) will host Ridge Community at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Pack Challenge.

Pack Challenge

The Pack Challenge girls basketball event will take place Friday and Saturday at West Port.

Friday’s games are Vanguard vs. Fleming Island (4:30 p.m.), Winter Haven vs. The Rock (6 p.m.), West Port vs. Ridge Community (7:30 p.m.) and Plant vs. Fort Walton Beach (9 p.m.).

Saturday’s games are Fort Walton Beach vs. Winter Haven (noon), Fleming Island vs. Plant (1:30 p.m.), The Villages vs. West Port (3 p.m.) and Ridge Community vs. Vanguard (4:30 p.m.).

Girls weightlifting

Forest’s Alexis Hogan captured the District 4-3A championship at 154 pounds at Flagler Palm Coast High School on Wednesday.

Boys basketball

Lake Weir 64, West Port 55: At LWHS, the Hurricanes overcame a 15-point halftime deficit to collect their 12th straight win behind 25 points and 6 rebounds from Jordan Gimenez and 23 points and 9 rebounds from Tyrone Smith.

Unbeaten since Dec. 3, LWHS (13-3) will face Crystal River at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Chris Nichols Tournament. The Wolf Pack (6-11) will visit Gainesville on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Girls soccer

Trinity Catholic 8, Bushnell South Sumter 0: At Trinity, sophomore Taryn Reardon scored 4 goals (giving her 20 in 10 games this season) to lead the Celtics.

Scoring single goals for TC were Camden Crews, Kaley Alava, Josie Leonard and Sophia Rodriguez.

The Celtics (8-5-1) will visit Mount Dora on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Boys soccer

Vanguard 5, North Marion 3: At NMHS, the Knights scored two goals in the first half and three in the second to claim the win.

VHS (11-9-1) will host Eustis on Friday at 7 p.m., while the Colts (3-12-1) will visit Eastside on Thursday at 7 p.m.
